I’m so sorry for your loss, Brenda, and that you had to endure the agony of watching your mother’s decline; that would have been hard enough in normal circumstances, but that extra layer of enforced, institutionalized separation at the end of a life was despicable. Kudos to you for being proactive and changing the laws. I hope that Francine is now in a happier place and you and your family can heal.
In NJ, our (former) Gov along with the commissioner of our DOH sent infected patients from the hospital back to the LTCF (Long Term Care Facilities) aka nursing homes. By design. Unbelievable.
And that commissioner-lady retired along with the governor and got a building named after her.

Had it been avoidable? Okay, but it wasn't so all the more heartbreaking, and traumatic. As Ruth wrote: I also hope your mom is happy now, and that there is some kind of healing happening for your family (which looks lovely, by the way: the generations are a blessing).

There are so many of these stories. We have to ensure this can never happen again.
