I reread this chapter for the first time in a long time last night, before I posted it. And it all came back so clearly--the arrival of the man with the fork, and then his fairly triumphant departure, somewhat more electrified than before, having found for me an outlet that would please my odd vazaha inclinations.

I will add a caption. That's Tana, the capital city. It doesn't all look like that--there are areas without rice paddies--but the rice fields are visible from much of the city, and they encroach.
